Mexico Energy Partners attended The Green Expo in Mexico City in September 2022. The show ran in its 29th edition from 6 to 8 September at Centro Citibanamex, held together with Aquatech Mexico in its sixth edition and Intersolar Mexico in its third, under the XXIX Congreso Internacional Ambiental and organized by Tarsus México.
The exhibition floor was arranged around pavilions for biomass, eco-innovation, circular economy and sustainable construction. Intersolar Mexico covered photovoltaic generation, solar thermal systems and energy storage. The congress program addressed Mexico's target of a 35% clean-energy share of electricity generation by 2024, set in Transitorio Tercero of the Ley de Transición Energética, alongside circular economy, water scarcity and water contamination.
Why three shows in one hall mattered to plant managers
Water treatment, solar generation and waste handling sit on three different lines of a Mexican plant's operating budget and are usually bought from three different vendors at three different times. Putting them under one roof for one week made a point that most facilities miss. The same interval data that sizes a rooftop array also tells you whether a treatment plant's pumping schedule can be moved out of the punta period on a GDMTH account, and whether a chiller and a compressor are peaking together. Evaluated separately, each project returns a modest number. Evaluated against a single load profile, the sequencing changes and so does the answer.
The presence of energy storage inside Intersolar Mexico's scope was worth reading carefully in 2022. The Comisión Reguladora de Energía had issued no general provisions defining an electricity storage system as a participant in the Mercado Eléctrico Mayorista, and CENACE had no corresponding market product for one. Anything on display was therefore equipment whose return had to come from behind the meter, through demand-charge reduction, ride-through and power quality. Any vendor claim of market revenue for a battery in Mexico should have been met with a single question: which published CRE instrument creates it.
What to carry into a show visit
The visitors who got value from that week arrived with twelve months of CFE billing showing demand by period, interval data from the main meter and a single-line diagram, and asked every vendor for installed cost per usable kWh, reference sites on the same tariff class, and warranty terms in writing.
